We are now closed for the winter, but we’ll keep in touch via social media. Meanwhile thank you all so much for your support, keep well and safe.

Brightlingsea Museum has exciting and ambitious exhibitions depicting the story of the town’s links with the sea and River Colne. From its unique role as a Limb of the Cinque Ports, the only one north of the Thames, then as a Naval Base, in Tudor times and in both World Wars, and how local men for centuries have earnt their living building ships, dredging for oysters and stowboating (fishing for sprats) and when they skippered and crewed majestic cruising and racing yachts.

The museum established in 1989 has substantial resources available for research projects and have plans for a range of activities when circumstances allow. An ideal venue to visit either on your own, with the family or in a larger group – there is something for everyone including a warm welcome!
